Hi everyone!
I am very happy to continue with our
Campus Liaison Spotlights started in 2011*. The GSC wants to show our appreciation of all the
hard work our liaisons do, especially now with the 2013 AERA Annual Meeting quickly approaching. Also,
this will give us opportunities to get to know each other before attending the
annual meeting.
For our inaugural 2013 post, meet Anthony Derriso, liaison at the
University of Alabama!

Q. What did you do
before going to graduate school?
A. Before going
to graduate school, I was a science teacher for nine years.
Q. What are your
current research interests?
A. I am currently using a large-scale data
set to study motivation among US ninth graders as it relates to science,
technology, engineering and math (STEM).
Q. What career do you
want upon graduation (Faculty or other)?
A. Ideally, I would like to teach at a
university and continue my ongoing research, but I have not ruled out heading
back to the “front line” and teaching high school science if the right
opportunity presented itself.
Q. If you could
change anything about education, what would it be?
A. Kids need the opportunity to learn as
they pursue their passions. What if every student had an individualized
education plan specific to their interests and abilities?
Q. What is your
favorite research article and why?
A. My first one, the one on the horizon…the
one I can just see if I look hard enough.
Q. What was your
proudest moment or greatest accomplishment?
